About Oxford

The city of dreaming spires, Oxford is 56 miles (90km) north-west of London, with excellent bus and rail services and has a population of approximately 180,000. Ancient and beautiful buildings dominate the city. It is strongly identifiable as a university town, with its medieval college architecture serving 30,000 students. The University of Oxford is the oldest university in the English-speaking world, comprised of 39 colleges. Daily Info provides a number of maps, including venues for eating and drinking.

While at the Skoll World Forum, delegates have the opportunity to attend dinners in unique, awe-inspiring dining halls at locations such as Wadham, Exeter, and Balliol.

Most Forum activities are held in downtown Oxford at New Theatre and Saïd Business School, at the University of Oxford.

What to Pack

British weather is notorious for its unpredictability, so we advise that you come prepared to experience more than one weather front! The temperature is likely to be 10°-16° Celsius (50°- 60° Fahrenheit) during the day and down to 5° Celsius (40° Fahrenheit) in the evening. It is a good idea to pack a raincoat, an umbrella and a warm jacket. To check the current weather, click here.

Dress is professional. You will be seated for much of the day in presentations and lectures, or standing and socializing, so please do dress to be comfortable.

Also, please bring comfortable walking shoes. This is a walking city, and while most of our events will take place at Said Business School, the rest will be within an easy 10 – 15 minute walk. If you require mobility assistance, please let us know by emailing us at and we’ll ensure that special arrangements are made.
